BAE Systems UK Signs Corporate-Wide Contract with AdaCore

Leading defense and aerospace company adopts AdaCore’s GNAT Pro development environment

AMSTERDAM and NEW YORK, March 11, 2009 – Avionics 2009 – AdaCore has announced a corporate-wide, unlimited-usage licensing agreement with BAE Systems UK, providing every BAE Systems developer in the UK with access to AdaCore’s GNAT Pro Ada development environment. This contract potentially applies to all Ada projects at BAE Systems UK facilities. Existing projects can freely migrate to GNAT Pro, and new Ada projects can select GNAT Pro, with no additional costs to BAE Systems UK.

More than 600 current developers will benefit under this new contract. Developers now have access to GNAT Pro on 15 major native and cross development platforms that are in use across BAE Systems UK.

BAE Systems UK has a long history of successful use of the Ada programming language. Current and recent projects include the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS), Harrier and Nimrod updates, and the Seawolf Mid-Life Update (SWMLU) ship defense system. Future BAE Systems Ada programs will be able to take advantage of this corporate-wide agreement, with immediate cost savings for software tool procurement.

“This landmark investment by BAE Systems UK demonstrates how Ada continues to be the standard for development in the safety-critical aerospace and defense markets,” said Franco Gasperoni, managing director of AdaCore. “This agreement builds on our long-term relationship with BAE Systems UK, and the large number of developers that can benefit demonstrates the importance of Ada to BAE Systems UK.”

The Ada programming language, which has evolved from Ada 83 to Ada 95 and more recently Ada 2005, is designed specifically for large, long-lived applications where reliability, efficiency, safety and security are vital. AdaCore’s technical team has been closely involved with the Ada language since its inception, and the GNAT Pro development environment combines state-of-the-art technology with expert support to provide a natural solution where efficient and reliable code is critical.

AdaCore already has a strong presence in the aerospace and defense markets. In addition to working with BAE Systems, the company has corporate agreements with MBDA and other major defense contractors.
